This is a different style for me, but loving it. Acrylic on canvas, handmade frame, painted pine.
True story. An older woman came into my studio one day and asked to buy it. I didn’t have the original on hand, just a print, which she purchased. Then, she told me it reminded her of herself when she was 17 and fled Iran to Pakistan during the 1979 revolution, alone and on foot.
Goosebumps.
In fact, this painting remained unfinished for several years until one day, I finished it in a flourish. It feels somewhat unfinished…but that is, I suppose, what it’s like to be a woman.
Once I finished the painting, it reminded me of the book Braided Sweetgrass about Native American wisdom. And it reminded me of a good friend who is from the Menomonee tribe in Wisconsin.
I almost don’t want to sell it!
